What if you chose not to know

There was a traveling man who met a spirit. The spirit advised the man that he, the spirit, had the power to provide the man with the knowledge of exactly how much more time was remaining in the mans life. The man could choose to acquire this knowledge, but therein was the quandary. The man was a procrastinator by nature, putting off this and that because it can just be done tomorrow. Oh, the man had many faults and flaws, but one of his best attributes was the ability to recognize his own faults. Translation: the man Knew that if he was made aware of the time of his last day to live, if there were “enough” days left, he would simply put off “living every day as if it were your last” – until one day it would be his last day. The man’s life unraveled right before his eyes, he was conscious of time, for the first time.

It should be noted: When you’re smart enough to at least recognize your own faults, you are able to mitigate or navigate through them in order to ensure the accomplishment of the task.

The man thanked the spirit graciously, though declined to know the time of his death. Instead the man promised himself he would live in truth, make the most of his time, and live everyday as if it were his last.
