The reason why people appear differently in photographs

Perception, including visual perception, varies from brain to brain. Vehicle colors are selected and named based on what the average person would perceive visually – this is why you don’t usually see a car company offering thr color blue, as it would generate an outcry of customers decrying false advertising; who can argue with a color called Laguna Seca Blue.

When it comes to viewing photographic images of any object including a person, we are actually perceiving a perception, that is, we are perceiving an image that was first generated by the camera’s perception. With all or this in mind, there is humor in the term “photo-realistic” because every camera will take a different photo of the exact same image – this us because every camera, even those built to the same exact specification, are build from components which are manufactured to be within specified tolerances…just like humans. Everybody is ugly and everybody is beautiful.
