The atmosphere is a wireless mesh network. Arrival at this conclusion occurred while thinking about the speed of light, and whether or not light actually travels, or if it is already present in every molecule of the atmosphere, yet unactivated / in a de-energized state. To provoke/activate/energize a molecule to a state in which it emits light, you must provide energy at the right frequency to the molecule. However, because all molecules in the atmosphere are attached, it would be impossible/implausible to create enough energy at the right frequency to energize/provoke even a single molecule to produce light without first isolating the molecule.
